Capturing the Consumer’s RAW Reaction: Salvetti Llombart’s Hybrid Methodological Approach

Grupo especializado investigación mercados

For years, we’ve been listening to consumers from multiple angles; through in-depth qualitative studies, strategic segmentations, and multivariate quantitative testing. But in today’s world, overloaded with stimuli and messages, grabbing the consumer’s attention is just the beginning. What really matters is understanding how they feel spontaneously; what draws them in, what turns them away, and how they instinctively respond.

At Salvetti Llombart, this led us to develop a more spontaneous, realistic, and predictive way of listening. Our goal: to capture that very first spontaneous reaction, the split-second before reasoning takes over. This gave rise to our HYBRID METHODOLOGY, a research approach that fuses real-time qualitative interpretation with immediate quantitative data to detect the consumer’s most genuine responses.

Our Approach: How Does This Hybrid Proposal Work?

This is a fully integrated method that combines qualitative and quantitative techniques in a single, cohesive data collection flow:

  • Immediate quantitative measurement through rankings, choices, visual scales… enabling us to detect preferences, impact, and differentiation.
  • In-depth qualitative analysis via mixed interviews that combine metrics with open-ended questions—capturing both verbal content and non-verbal cues (semiotics).
  • Interactive questionnaires with open responses and voice/video recordings that naturally reflect what consumers think and feel in the moment.
  • A break from sequential logic—no need to choose one method over the other first. We integrate both dimensions in a collaborative process.
  • Bringing data to life by applying an emotional lens that helps interpret numbers, rank orders, and what lies beneath them.

The result is a rich and nuanced snapshot of the consumer’s raw reaction: what they choose, what they feel, what they say, and how they say it.

Applications: When to Use This Methodology

While not every study requires this approach, it is especially valuable when:

  • Testing packaging – when visual impact, clarity, and attractiveness must be evaluated instantly, along with spontaneous perception of new designs.
  • Evaluating claims or advertising messages – to understand whether a message is clear, memorable, engaging, and emotionally resonant.
  • Testing innovation concepts – to detect early reactions to developing ideas and prioritize both functional and communication routes.
  • Naming for products or sub-brands – to measure impact, clarity, spontaneous associations, and emotional resonance.
  • Insight-driven exploration – when clients want to uncover tensions, desires, or barriers without formal group settings, capturing authentic insights in the consumer’s own voice.

Key Benefits: What Does This Approach Bring to the Business?

  • Realism, proximity, and authenticity: consumers respond as they would in real life, not as artificial study participants.
  • Faster decision-making: results can be delivered within days, without sacrificing qualitative depth; ideal for agile testing of high-impact assets (packs, claims, concepts).
  • Enriched cross-reading: linking choices with emotions and discourse allows for deeper understanding.
  • Depth in minutes: combining data with words reveals nuances that pure metrics often miss.
  • Emotional decoding: enabling us to capture and analyse consumers’ emotional states in the moment.

At Salvetti Llombart, we remain committed to developing methodologies that not only bring brands closer to their consumers but also reflect how people truly think, feel, and decide in the real world. Our aim is not to replace traditional methods, but to complement them with a more direct, spontaneous, and market-paced perspective.

We aspire to enable brands to listen more sincerely and act more confidently by blending the rigor of data with the richness of emotion and giving qualitative insights the analytical strength they deserve.
