Reading the score: What 2025 really told us about digital advertising and why 2026 will be about orchestration

This week, AdJinn presented their 2025 Digital Advertising Insights at the AEA Advertisers Forum in Spain. More than 70 advertisers joined the session, representing FMCG, finance, retail, insurance, telecom, health and other key sectors.

AdJinn, part of Minerva Insights Group, has spent the past year analyzing how the Spanish market is evolving. One conclusion is clear: 2025 marked a turning point for digital advertising.

2025 was the shift from expansion to coordination

For years, digital advertising grew easily. Budgets increased. Platforms multiplied. Reporting dashboards made progress look automatic.

In 2025, this changed. Digital did not slow down. It simply became more complex. Fragmentation grew. Costs increased. Running digital without discipline became harder.

This leads to the new rule for 2026: Coordination now matters more than volume.

Campaigns that treat DVN, social, search and CTV as independent lines of activity will continue losing impact, even if spend rises.

The consumer changed and the mix must adapt

One of the biggest shifts of 2025 was behavioral. Gen Z and Millennials returned to the big screen, but not with linear habits. The second screen is now the default. And it is not a distraction. It is an opportunity.

Here is how the new pattern works:

  • Big‑screen video captures attention.
  • Social media amplifies the message.
  • Search validates credibility and offer.
  • Commerce happens continuously in the background.

Content, advertising and transactions no longer follow a sequence. They happen in parallel.

The mix only works when channels support each other. This is why digital in 2026 is not just planned. It is orchestrated.

What each discipline contributes when the system is connected

AdJinn’s cross‑channel analysis across DVN, social, search and CTV revealed how each layer functions when used properly.

DVN

The most flexible digital layer. It delivers incremental reach and adapts to branding or performance needs depending on format and buying strategy. In 2025, advertisers showed they could maintain digital presence even when shifting budgets, as long as the mix stayed balanced.

Social

No longer the engagement channel. It is the amplification engine. It is where creative fatigue appears first, and where algorithms either accelerate or block performance. Brands that treat social as a learning system learn faster than in any other environment.

Search

Still the most rational part of the mix and still misunderstood. Search is not just conversion. It is validation. Consumers use it to confirm claims, compare offers and check brand credibility before acting.

Connected TV (CTV)

The discipline that shaped the conversation in 2025.

CTV is not a trend. It is the structural bridge between the impact of television and the precision of digital. In 2025, AdJinn launched CTV monitoring in Spain focused on the actual living‑room experience.

CTV changes the architecture of the mix. It brings back the power of the big screen, but inside a digital ecosystem. But CTV only works with rigor:

  • frequency control
  • deduplication
  • inventory quality
  • measurement linked to real outcomes

Without discipline, CTV risks repeating the weaknesses of linear TV, but with less transparency.

2026 requires a transversal reading of the mix

The main question for 2026 is not how much media to buy. It is how to manage the system.

Digital has become a multi‑discipline machine. Yet many campaigns still run as isolated streams.

Advertisers now need a transversal view of the mix:

  • where ads appear
  • how pressure is built
  • which formats dominate
  • how competitors behave

This is not a nice‑to‑have. It is the basis for running digital as a system.

This is where ad intelligence becomes critical. Not as reporting. But as the ability to read the score.

2026 will not reward the biggest spender but the best conductor

If 2025 marked the transition, 2026 will reward those who orchestrate effectively.

Leaders will not be the brands buying the most impressions.
They will be the ones that:

  • capture attention through video
  • amplify it through social
  • validate and convert through search
  • rebuild reach through CTV
  • maintain strong governance and competitive awareness

Digital advertising is now an orchestra.

The key question is simple: Is your campaign playing a symphony or just making noise?
